A book called “Advanced Style” has been making the rounds lately. It features ladies of advanced age who really love to dress up. I was excited when I heard about it but disappointed when I saw it. These ladies are audacious, but I do not aspire to emulate them. Here’s one: Iris Apfel, known for selling her jewelry line on TV. What a character! I like this quote by Sherrie Mathieson regarding the type of style celebrated in the book: Too many women are merely ecccentric (often actually clownish)– particularly older women. They pile it on and are credited with a sense of style! But so few do it well.
Following are some perennial beauties whose style is a little more to my taste. They are ladies who are truly beautiful; they project presence and elegant personal style. They occupy their space but they don’t take more than their share. They inspire me. Read on and you’ll see what I mean
